SMASHMATHS - Greetings to Ms. Helen S and her international class from DECV! MASHMATHS - featured on Melbourne University's Bastow Institute's Leading Numeracy website - - Interactive Learning for the Australian Mathematics Curriculum

Volume and Capacity          Year    1     2     3     4     5     6

Year 1 - Measure and compare the lengths and capacities of pairs of objects using uniform informal units. <back to top>

I can't find any games for this. Please contact Smashmaths via Facebook with details if you do!

Year 2 - Compare and order several shapes and objects based on length, area, volume and capacity using appropriate uniform informal units. <back to top>

Cubirocks

Your challenge is to help Stella, Oska and Pablo work out the volume of differently sized cubirocks. You will use small, medium or large cubes to measure with. See if you can find a number pattern to help you. Goodluck! (Thanks to Wendy from Sydney for suggesting this activity)

I can't find any games for this. Please contact Smashmaths via Facebook or the 'About us' page if you have any suggestions for here.

Year 3 - Measure, order and compare objects using familiar metric units of length, mass and capacity. <back to top>

Best Measure

Match the pairs up correctly. Eg Paperclip = 1 gram. Accuracy counts! 1000 point bonus if you get all correct in the 6 rounds.

Alien Cookbook - Choose the Measure

1st of 3 games. Click and drag the right number of eggs to the mixing bowl. Click on the correct measure when the arrow points to an ingredient on the recipe. Click on the 'MIX' button to check your answers. (Thanks to Max who helped me find the game!)

Matching Math - Metric Weight

Match the metric conversion as quick as you can. We don't use the 'Centigram' in Australia but you'll get the idea very quickly. Goodluck!

Year 4 - Use scaled instruments to measure and compare lengths, masses, capacities and temperatures. <back to top>

Volume Shape Shoot

Use your knowledge of volume and shoot the 3D shapes with the same volume. Four games to work through.

Matching Math - Metric Volume

Match the pairs correctly. Eg 2 litres = 2000 Millitres. Accuracy counts! 1000 point bonus if you get all correct in the 6 rounds. Includes the 'Centilitre' because it's British.

Alien Cookbook - Use a Measuring Scale

2nd of 3 games. Click and drag the eggs into the mixing bowl. Click on the packet or jug until you have added the correct amount to the mixing bowl. Click on the 'MIX' button to check your answers. (Thanks Holly for helping find this game)

Cubes

Fill a box with cubes. Is there a rule for finding the volume of a box if you know its width, depth and height? Addicitive!

Year 5 - Choose appropriate units of measurement for length, area, volume, capacity and mass. <back to top>

Volume - BBC

Not a game but a really informative explanation volume about how to measure it.

Cubes

Fill a box with cubes. Is there a rule for finding the volume of a box if you know its width, depth and height? Addicitive!

Alien Cookbook - Calculate and Measure

3rd of 3 games. Click and drag the eggs into the mixing bowl. Look at the scale to work out how much more of the ingredient is needed. Add the missing amount by clicking on the packet or jug. Click on the 'MIX' button to check your answers. Goodluck! (Thank you Sam Y for helping me find this one!)

Year 6 - Connect volume and capacity and their units of measurement. <back to top>

Can You Fill It?

Containers need to be filled with water. You have three different sized pots to choose from but you can't over fill it…

Pod Launcher

Figure out how much explosive force the Space Pod needs to enter the glowing Target Zone. Drag your explosives underneath, then LAUNCH!
